There are hundreds of student athletes around the country, most of whom want to get better enhance their performance, so they can get more playing time, more recognition, among other things. Athletes can get themselves in better shape and maintain a competitive fitness level without getting involved with illegal drugs or to dangerous exercise and eating habits. The three ways that student athletes can maintain their healthy lifestyle are to: eat a well balanced diet with added protein, do extra muscle building exercise, and do training outside of practice. An example of the last tip would be for an athlete to practice on baseball softball pitching machines and batting cages for extra practice. Some parents purchase a batting cage for the children to practice at home as well. Below is a list of ways athletes can be healthy, while also enhancing their performance and why each plays a significant role in the process:
1. Eat a healthy portion of nutrient rich food full of protein, fruits, and vegetables. In order to do better in your sport, it is absolutely essential to eat well. Some athletes choose take vitamins to make sure they get the proper amount of nutrition. Protein helps build muscle, fruits help athletes make sure they do not get sick, and vegetables help with digestion and overall good health. Some athletes think that in order to lose weight, they need to eat a smaller amount of food and this is not the case. It is important to adapt the amount of food you eat to make it healthier in order to lose or maintain weight and to gain muscle.
2. Do muscle building types of exercises by lifting weights. Most sports require at least a small amount of muscle tone, so if an athlete wants to perform better they need to train with weights. For example, tennis is a sport where it requires some arm muscles, so many good tennis players work on their arm muscles at least four times a week.
3. Every athlete should train outside of normal activity time if they want to perform better in their sport. It is really important to do extra practice if the aspiring sportsman wants to be better. For example, there are a lot of student athletes who take private lessons outside of school, so they can be sure to practice whatever needs practicing. Sometimes with a team, it is pretty difficult to get personalized attention from the team coach, which is where private lessons are a good idea. Private lessons or training also works well because they give athletes the extra exercise they should have and probably would not otherwise get at a regular school practice.
These are only three of the easiest of all the ways athletes can enhance their performance without turning to illegal drugs and without poor eating habits or too much exercise. It is absolutely essential to understand that a successful athlete eats well, lifts the correct amount of weights that target the right body parts, and exercises an appropriate amount of extra time outside of regular practice. It is relatively simple to enhance your athletic performance if you put forth the effort to eat better, lift extra weights, and put in more practice time outside of school. Usually, if an athlete makes each one of the changes listed above, they will become an amazing student athlete!
